Hilton Head Island is one of the top spots for golf in the nation.  In fact, Golf Digest considers it to be the number ten golf resort in the nation.  The Verizon Heritage Classic is played every year at the Harbour Town Golf Links course on the island.  Some Hilton Head golf courses have been used as qualifiers for the U.S. Open.  In short, Hilton Head is one of the best places to be if you are a golf enthusiast, whether you are visiting or decide to settle on the island and enjoy what Hilton Head golf has to offer year-round.

Although there are many world-class golf courses on Hilton Head, the Harbour Town Golf Links course is probably the most famous.  It is home to the Verizon Heritage Classic, the next stop on the PGA tour after the Masters tournament.  The course is located on the Sea Pines Resort at the southern tip of the island.  While it is one of the more expensive Hilton Head golf courses, it is also one of the best.

It is also a course that can be used by experienced golfers and beginners alike.  For the Hilton Head golf veteran, the course offers the challenging tees used in the Verizon Heritage Classic.  These require a great deal of accuracy rather than the brute force required for longer holesand the challenge may not be obvious until you realize your score is ending up much higher than you expected.  For beginning golfers, the course offers forward tees placed more favorably, decreasing the difficulty significantly.  This allows Hilton Head golf enthusiasts to bring family or friends along regardless of their existing golf skills.

For the average golfer with good but not great skills, the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes is a very goodand very scenicchoice.  The course begins with a relatively friendly first hole with lots of open green, and tends to give subtle challenges rather than devious ones.  Thus the course has a great deal of playability even while offering challenge to those who start from the back tees.  It also makes use of the landscape, with the lagoon system playing a role in 11 of the courses 18 holes.  Even better, the ninth and tenth holes offer spectacular ocean views to remind you that you are enjoying the island as well.

These are just two of many courses that this island golf scene has to offer, and many courses are part of larger resort areas, allowing vacationers to enjoy the perfect golf getaway.  If you are a golf enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to check out the Hilton Head golf scene.
